About the Meeting
We are excited to announce the first meeting of the Orthopaedic Implants Section. Of many possible themes, we have chosen to focus on total knee replacement (TKR) this year. Presentations of esteemed invited speakers will last for 20 minutes followed by an extensive discussion. Topics will focus on historical aspects and retrieval analyses of TKR in order to identify lessons learned from historical (failed) and existing designs. Furthermore, a retrospective view will be taken of the innovation process and whether innovation has stagnated in recent years. Additionally, a future perspective will be presented in terms of design, materials, surgical tools and evaluation methods to improve the quality of TKR.
It will also be discussed how CE and FDA regulations affect clinical introduction and whether the testing requirements and efforts are reasonably balanced against the risk to introduce unsafe devices on the market. The meeting will end with a general assembly. We look forward to your contributions to the open discussion, so that we can together shape the future of the Orthopaedic Implant Section to meet your needs in orthopaedic research.
Coffee service will be provided to all meeting attendees on behalf of the section.
