ORS/OREF Travel Awards in Orthopaedic Research Translation

Objective:  The ORS is dedicated to fostering excellence in orthopaedic research and increasing the representation of original research in clinical and translational medical research among clinician scientists.  Towards this goal, the ORS is pleased to announce the “Travel Awards in Orthopaedic Research Translation”, co-sponsored by OREF.

This award, established in 2009, recognizes clinician scientists and clinical investigators in the early stages of their career who have played a key or leading role in an original research project in clinical or translational medicine, and who have demonstrated excellence in training and a commitment to orthopaedic research. Recipients of the ORS/OREF Travel Award in Research Translation will present their work at a Clinical and Translational Research Award Session at the ORS Annual Meeting and will receive:

Five (5) recipients will be selected.

Award determinations will be made based on the quality of the applicant’s study described in a submitted abstract in the area of clinical or translational research as determined by the ORS Special Projects Committee and Program Committee, and satisfaction of all eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Applicants must have obtained an M.D., D.O., D.D.M, D.P.T., D.D.S., or equivalent, have an active independent clinical practice, and be no more than five years past completion of a clinical residency or fellowship program. The five years of eligibility are defined from the date of completion of residency training or clinical subspecialty fellowship training.

2. Applicants do not need to be members of the ORS and need not have previously attended an Annual Meeting.

Application Process

Applicants must submit:

1. Completed application form submitted at time of abstract submission to the ORS Annual Meeting;

2. Copy of the submitted abstract for award consideration on which the applicant must be the first AND presenting author of the abstract;

3. Brief biographical sketch of the nominee indicating dates of training and education (2-pages maximum);

4. A letter from his/her current program director or chief of service attesting to the eligibility of the candidate.
