A section is a small, intimate community of like-minded peers that promote the common interest of ORS members in a specific area of research related to orthopaedics and the musculoskeletal system.
ORS provides awards and grants for the early career and established investigator based on high-quality abstracts including ORS Research Section Awards.
Presenting Authors of abstracts submitted by the September 28 deadline will automatically be considered for all applicable ORS Research Section Awards based on information gathered upon submission of your abstract.

The ORS Preclinical Models Section will once again offer podium and poster awards in recognition of exemplary adherence to the ARRIVE guidelines and scientific impact at the ORS 2021 Annual Meeting.
Section 3Rs Awards (reduce, refine, replace)
Abstracts submitted for the ORS 2021 Annual Meeting that meet these criteria will be scored on how well the abstract promotes:
- replacement to avoid or replace the use of animals
- reduction to minimize the number of animals used per experiment
- refinement of methods to minimize animal suffering and improve animal welfare
Examples of work that could fit this category are not limited to, but could include the generation of organoid systems for drug screening to eliminate the need for animal testing in the early stages, re-use of animals from other experiments, or repeated longitudinal live animal assessment of outcome measures, or improvements in analgesia and anesthesia techniques, evidence of training or management of animals to minimize pain and distress or the development or improvement (standardization/ characterization) of preclinical models.
