This presentation by Scintica will highlight the use of in vivo DXA and ex vivo μCT as complementary (not interchangeable) imaging techniques for preclinical bone research. Using orthopaedic research examples, we will explore how DXA enables low-dose, longitudinal assessment of bone mineral density, allowing researchers to track skeletal changes over time in the same animals. The session will emphasize how the iNSiGHT DXA system supports the 3Rs of animal research by reducing animal numbers, minimizing invasive procedures, and maximizing data extraction per study. We will then show how ex vivo μCT analysis provides critical high-resolution insight into bone microarchitecture, validating and contextualizing DXA findings. Together, this integrated imaging workflow delivers a more complete, ethical, and translationally relevant understanding of bone formation and healing.

Session Objectives

  1. Understand how DXA and μCT address distinct but complementary biological questions, spanning bone mineral density and microarchitectural quality.
  2. Recognize the role of in vivo DXA in enabling ethical longitudinal study design, supporting the 3Rs by reducing animal use, minimizing procedural burden, and improving statistical power.
  3. Explore the value of ex vivo μCT as a complementary modality, providing high-resolution structural validation of bone formation and remodeling endpoints observed with DXA.

Speaker:

Jade Marrow, PhD
Senior Product Manager

Dr. Jade Marrow is a Senior Product Manager at Scintica, where she leads the X-ray and optical imaging portfolios for preclinical research. Her work focuses on translating advanced imaging technologies into practical, high-impact tools for life science and orthopaedic researchers. She holds a PhD in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph and brings over a decade of research experience spanning human kinetics, cardiovascular physiology, and molecular biology. Through her role at Scintica, Dr. Marrow supports bone and orthopaedic researchers worldwide by enabling ethical, reproducible, and translational imaging workflows for skeletal, metabolic, and regenerative studies.

Passbook To Prizes

Passbooks will be located at registration or at the ORS Booth in Hall A.

How to Play

Attendees must visit all exhibitors, talk to them, and get their passbook signed. Once the passbook is stamped by every exhibitor, the passbook must be placed in the prize drum at the ORS Booth.

The ORS staff will select the winners of the prizes by pulling names from the prize drum.

Prizes are not redeemable for cash. Prizes are not transferable. Attendees MUST be present to win.
