ORS appreciates your interest in becoming more familiar with the society’s Bylaws, and Policies, and Procedures. A definition of each term is outlined below to help you understand that types of documents to which you have access.
Bylaws Defined
The Bylaws are rules and regulations within the society that help with internal operations like the organizational makeup. They also provide guidelines for members and the board of directors to follow. Changes to the Bylaws must be approved by the membership.
Policy & Procedure Defined
Policies set parameters for decision-making and leave room for flexibility. They show the “why” behind an action.
Procedures, explain the “how.” They provide step-by-step instructions for specific routine tasks. In many cases, procedures include a checklist or process steps to follow. Procedures typically change more often than an underlying policy.
Access to ORS Bylaws, and Policies, and Procedures
The ORS has several policies and procedures. Some are newly formed while others have existed for several years and have been revised alignment to the changing environmental horizon. The procedures can change based on the strategic direction of the society.
The new and revised policies and procedures are available here for your review. They were created from the ORS Bylaws that were revised and approved by the membership in June 2023. They are also shown here for your review.
More policies and procedures will be added once approved by the board of directors.
Special recognition is given to the P&P Manual Task Force (Robin Queen, Chris Little, Peter Amadio, Ed Guo, Jeff Bischoff, Dawn Elliot, and Sharon Smith-Terry) who spend countless hours creating and revising the ORS policies and procedures.
