A Message from Wiley on Journal Article Submission

Those who are submitting journal articles should be aware that, as of July 1, Wiley has changed its policy regarding deposit of NIH-funded papers into PubMed Central (PMC) on behalf of authors:

  • Wiley will no longer deposit accepted articles to PMC on behalf of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded authors who publish non-Open Access articles. These authors are responsible for depositing their articles in PMC. Please see Wiley’s instructions on how to do it.
  • Wiley will continue to deposit articles to PMC on behalf of authors who publish their articles in Open Access journals.

This policy change was made to meet requirements for the NIH public access plan, to allow authors to comply with funding mandates, and to support the sustainability of our publishing operations and partnerships.

Also, on July 8, the NIH announced that they will implement a cap on allowable publication costs for NIH funded research. NIH has not yet defined what the cap will be or provided specifics on how it will be calculated. More information will be provided as this develops.
